Zhonghengfeng Construction Group has signed a subcontract for the Astana LRT Phase II project in Kazakhstan. The company will supply steel structures for stations 401, 402 and 403 on Line 4.
The contract was signed during a ceremony in Zhengzhou, China, on August 30. The event also recognized companies and individuals who contributed to the opening of Astana LRT Phase I.

Phase I experience on Astana’s light rail system
Zhonghengfeng began working on Astana LRT Phase I in 2023. Its scope covered the steel structures for eight steel box girder bridges and five light rail stations. The completed line is described by the project team as Central Asia’s first fully automated urban rail line built to Chinese standards.
The project required coordination across national borders and work under Kazakhstan’s severe winter conditions. It also gave Zhonghengfeng practical experience with station steel structures, bridge components, fabrication documentation and delivery for a major Central Asian transport project.

During the ceremony, the chairman of Kazakhstan’s City Transportation Systems and the chairman of China Railway Asia-Europe Construction Investment thanked the participating companies and construction teams. Their remarks referred to the line’s role in improving local public transport and the coordination required to complete the first phase.
Two Zhonghengfeng team members recognized
The event included awards for organizations and individuals who worked on Phase I. Two Zhonghengfeng employees received individual honors: Chu Guofeng received a second prize and Li Jialong received a third prize.

The recognition followed the completion and opening of the first phase. For Zhonghengfeng, it also provided a direct transition into the next package of station steel structure work.
Steel structures for three Phase II stations
Zhonghengfeng signed the Phase II subcontract with China Railway Asia-Europe Construction Investment. Under the agreement, the company will supply the steel structures for three stations on Line 4: stations 401, 402 and 403.

The new scope builds on the company’s earlier work in Kazakhstan. It will require the same attention to technical coordination, fabrication quality, packing, traceability and cross-border delivery that supported Phase I.
Continuing work in Central Asia
Rail transit is one of Zhonghengfeng’s three main business areas. The group reports experience on more than 70 high-speed railway stations and over 220 bridges, along with industrial building and energy projects. Its Baotou fabrication base covers 100,000 square metres and has a monthly production capacity of more than 10,000 tonnes.
The Astana contract adds three more station packages to the company’s international project record. Readers can review the earlier Astana LRT Phase I project story, see other international steel structure projects, or send project drawings and requirements for an initial review.
