First Steel Box Girders Lifted on October 24, 2020

The first batch of steel box girders for the Haiqing Highway bridge works was successfully lifted on October 24, 2020, according to a company announcement published on November 13. The announcement identified the bridge works as a project undertaken by Zhonghengfeng’s Hengjiu bridge business.

The wider Haiqing Highway scheme, between Jinhan Highway and the West Outer Ring Expressway, was described as approximately 3.28 kilometres long, with one interchange, five major bridges and two culverts. The source specified a two-way, four-lane Class I highway, a design speed of 60 kilometres per hour, a 30-metre roadbed and Highway-I vehicle loading.

These figures describe the overall highway scheme, not the extent of Hengjiu’s contract. The milestone concerns the first batch of girders; it does not establish completion of the bridge or highway.
